Floral Arches
An arch gives the moment somewhere to happen and gives the photographer something to frame against. Our heart-shaped flower arch comes in red or white and rents at $350, currently $320, and it can be booked on its own without any styling around it. For a proposal it is often the only structural piece needed, because the point is the two people standing in front of it.
Backdrops & Candlelight
Fabric draping, floral panels and candlelight turn a plain wall or an open patch of floor into a setting. Candles do most of the work in the photographs and almost none of it in daylight, so the choice depends on the hour you have picked. An evening proposal indoors can run on candlelight alone. A midday one needs the backdrop to carry the whole look instead.
Proposal Setups
A proposal is built for two people and a camera, which makes it a smaller and more precise job than a party. Everything sits within a few metres, sightlines matter more than scale, and the setup has to be finished and cleared of vans and boxes before the two of you arrive. A rattan peacock chair at $50 is a common addition here, and it also works as a seat for the guest of honour at the party afterwards.
Engagement Party Styling
The party is the opposite problem: a room, guest tables, a dessert or cake table, and a backdrop people will queue up to photograph themselves against. It is styled the way a wedding reception is styled, at a smaller scale, and if the wedding is already booked with us we keep the two looks deliberately distinct so the photographs do not repeat themselves.
Is a proposal setup the same job as an engagement party?
No, and quoting them as one thing is how people end up paying for the wrong scale. A proposal is private, usually under half an hour, and built for one camera and two people, so the budget goes into a single strong focal point and the timing of the setup. An engagement party is a room full of guests, which means tables, a dessert or cake table, a backdrop that holds up to dozens of phone photos, and a teardown at the end of the night. Some couples book both and some book only one. Tell us which you are planning when you enquire, because the answer changes the quote more than any other detail does.
How do you set up a proposal without giving it away?
The setup is the part most likely to ruin the surprise, so it gets planned backwards from the moment itself. We need to know where you will both be beforehand, what route you are taking, and who else is in on it, because a van outside the door at the wrong minute answers the question before you get to ask it. Where a venue or a private space is involved we coordinate access with whoever holds the key rather than arriving and hoping. If a photographer is shooting it, they usually need to be hidden and in position before we finish, so we build that into the order of work instead of leaving them to improvise.
Can a proposal setup work outdoors in Ottawa?
It can, and the honest constraint is the calendar. The comfortable outdoor window here runs from roughly May into early October, and outside it the weather makes decisions for you. Helium-filled latex balloons shrink visibly in cold air and lose their shape, then recover once they are back in the warmth, so a cold-weather setup is planned around structural and foil pieces rather than latex. Candles and open air rarely cooperate at all. Wind also matters more than temperature for anything fabric or floral. Tell us the location and the date and we will say plainly whether the look you are picturing survives outside on that day, or whether it belongs indoors.
What drives the cost of engagement decor?
For a proposal it is mostly the focal point and the access: one arch and candlelight in a space we can reach easily is a different quote from a multi-piece build somewhere with a narrow setup window. For a party it is guest and table count, whether a cake or dessert table is included, and how much of the look is florals rather than structural decor. Individual rental pieces can be added to any quote on their own, so the heart arch at $320 or the peacock chair at $50 can be booked without a full package. We quote itemized, which means you can move the money between pieces before committing to anything.

Can you do a surprise proposal setup, and how far ahead should I book?
Yes, and surprise setups are most of what this page covers. A couple of weeks is comfortable, and peak weekend dates in summer fill earlier. If your date is sooner than that, ask anyway. We would rather tell you honestly what is achievable in the time than have you assume it is too late and do nothing.
Can I rent just the flower arch without booking a full setup?
Yes. The heart-shaped flower arch is listed as a rental in its own right, in red or white, at $350 and currently $320, and plenty of people book it on its own and handle the rest themselves. The same is true of the peacock chair at $50. If one strong piece is all you need, say so and we will quote the single item rather than build a package around it.
Do you work with our photographer?
Yes, and for a proposal it genuinely helps to tell us early. Photographers shooting a proposal usually need to be in position and out of sight before the setup is finished, so knowing they are coming changes the order we work in and where we park. Tell us who is shooting and we will coordinate directly with them if that is easier than relaying it through you.
