The Glebe’s houses were largely built before 1914
Sparkle Events delivers and sets up event decor at Glebe addresses: balloon installs, backdrops, florals, and rentals you do not have to return yourself. The studio is at 99 Ralph Erfle Wy in Nepean, about 18 km almost due south of the Glebe by straight line, and the phone is 613-869-1777. The thing worth knowing before you book anything here is that the Glebe’s houses were largely built before 1914. That single fact decides more about a Glebe install than the theme does, because it sets the width of the front door, the shape of the staircase, and where a van can legally stand while it is being emptied.

What the pre-1914 grid does to an install
The Glebe is church land. In the initial 1837 survey of Ottawa, 178 acres were deeded to St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church as a Clergy Reserve, and “glebe” is the word for church land. The church began selling it off from the 1870s. Alexander Mutchmor’s 34-lot subdivision west of Bank Street was laid out in 1872, and Percy and Ella Streets are named after his children. The Exhibition opened at Lansdowne Park in 1888, the city limits were extended to the Rideau Canal by the annexation of 1889, and in June 1891 the first electric street car ran down Bank Street. The numbered avenues filled in behind it.
So this is old housing by any Ottawa measure, and it is not uniform. Wikipedia describes much of the Glebe as detached homes built in the early decades of the twentieth century, some owner-occupied and others subdivided into multiple rental apartments. That second half matters on delivery day more than the first. A subdivided century house means a shared front door, a staircase, and a unit that may be on the second or third floor. All three change what we bring and how it is packed, and all three are things we ask about before quoting rather than discover on the day.
Nothing we install is screwed, hooked, nailed or taped to a wall, so original woodwork, picture rails and plaster are never part of the conversation. Frames, arches and balloon walls stand on their own weighted bases and travel in modular sections sized to pass a standard door. What we ask for instead is a photograph of the route from the kerb to the room, and the ceiling height at the wall where the backdrop is going, because that is what decides an arch against a flat panel.
Where the event is
Four kinds of Glebe address, four different days
The neighbourhood is small, roughly 2.704 km² by Wikipedia’s figure and 2.58 sq km by All Things Home’s, and postal codes here start K1S. Inside that small area an event decor job changes shape completely depending on which door we are walking through.

We name venues because they exist, not because we are claiming anything about them. Lansdowne Park sits inside the Glebe boundary and holds the Aberdeen Pavilion, which opened in September 1898 and was restored in 1994, the Horticulture Building, and TD Place. The Glebe Community Centre is operated by the Glebe Community Association. Booking rules, setup windows and capacities are theirs to state and not ours, so ask them and tell us the answer.
The fourth Saturday in May
The May problem, and it is a real one
This is the part no competing page mentions, and it is the most useful thing here.
The Great Glebe Garage Sale has run since 1986 and is always the fourth Saturday in May. The Glebe Community Association, which organises it, ran the 2026 edition on Saturday 23 May from 8am to 2pm, and describes it as an annual community festival that draws thousands of people into the neighbourhood. By the fourth-Saturday rule the next one falls on 22 May 2027. That date is arithmetic from the association’s own rule rather than an announced date, so confirm it on glebeca.ca before you build a timeline on it.
The association’s own FAQ is specific about what the day does to the streets. For the duration of the event, Fifth Avenue between Percy and O’Connor and the block around the community centre at Second, Third and Lyon carry NO PARKING enforcement to keep emergency lanes clear, and signs may be upgraded to NO STOPPING so by-law services can tow. Emergency routes run Saturday from 5am to 3pm along Bronson Avenue between Powell and Lakeside, and along both sides of O’Connor between Fifth and Pretoria. The association also warns that the last weekend in May is complicated for travel generally, with several large events on and Queen Elizabeth Drive closed to cars from Somerset Street to Fifth Avenue.
May is busy here for a second reason. It is Canadian Tulip Festival season, and the largest tulip beds in the National Capital Region are in Commissioner’s Park, which sits immediately west of the Glebe in the Dow’s Lake neighbourhood rather than inside the Glebe itself.
None of that stops an event. It changes the load-in. A Glebe install on a May Saturday gets an earlier start, a longer carry, and a parking plan agreed at booking instead of worked out on the morning. If you are choosing between two dates and one of them is the fourth Saturday in May, we will tell you plainly which is the easier day.
Boulevards, sidewalks and permits
Where the decor is allowed to stand
An install that outgrows the front lawn wants to spill onto the boulevard, the sidewalk, or the park across the street. Do not let it. The Glebe Community Association puts the rule bluntly in its own garage sale FAQ: vending on public property such as sidewalks, boulevards, roads and parkland is illegal without a permit, and you will be ticketed by Ottawa by-law officers. It is written about garage sale tables, and it is the same principle for a balloon arch and a rented table. Keep the setup on the property you control.
If you actually want the street, there is a proper route for it. The City of Ottawa runs a residential block party application, and the City’s Traffic Management team, whose contact the association publishes as SpecialEventsTraffic@ottawa.ca and 613-580-2424 extension 28164, handles the questions. Start there rather than with us, and start early.
One more thing worth checking by address. Two heritage conservation districts sit inside the Glebe under the Ontario Heritage Act: Clemow Estate East, designated in 2011 by By-law 2011-346, and Clemow-Monkland Driveway and Linden Terrace, designated in 2020 over Clemow Avenue west of Bank to Bronson, Monkland Avenue and Linden Terrace. Clemow Estate East exists because of a concentration of houses by the architects W.E. Noffke and David Younghusband. Freestanding decor is not an alteration to a building, so nothing we set up triggers a heritage permit. The reason to know is the opposite one: if anybody on your team proposes fixing something to a facade or a fence on those streets, check the address first.
On parking, the association names three public lots in the neighbourhood: Lansdowne Park, the City lot at Bank Street and Third Avenue, and the lot at Bank Street and Chamberlain Avenue.

What does event decor cost in the Glebe?
Nothing on our price list is priced by neighbourhood, so the published figures are the same ones a Glebe address sees. What is published: event rentals start at $50, and custom favours are priced per item from $4.50 for a mini glass candy and jewellery box, through $5 for a miniature coffeepot, $5.50 for an incense burner, $6 for a henna handkerchief and $7.90 for a mini clay jar, up to $8 for a shell box with chocolate and a printed name card. Each of those has its own product page in the shop, so a hundred-guest total is something you can work out before you call anybody.

What we style here
Weddings, birthdays and cultural celebrations here
The Glebe skews to families with children, and the stretch of Bank Street running through it is a retail spine of small independent shops and restaurants. In practice that means a lot of celebrations happen within walking distance of the address they start at.
For weddings the two questions are the wall and the light. A century sitting room and a hall at Lansdowne want opposite treatments, and the backdrop and floral plan gets sized once we know which one we are standing in. For birthdays and showers the piece that usually carries the room is a balloon install, and in a pre-1914 house the honest constraint is height rather than floor area. For henna nights and cultural celebrations the studio works in English and Arabic.

Do you deliver and set up in the Glebe?
Yes. It is one entry on our full service area, and by our own measurement it is about 18.4 km from the studio at a bearing of 10 degrees, computed on 2026-08-24 from the site’s published coordinates to the Glebe’s published centroid. That is a straight line and not a drive time. It is a longer run than Kanata and a shorter one than Orleans or Gatineau, and it crosses the Rideau on the way.
