Our address reads 99 Ralph Erfle Wy, Nepean, and it stays that way because that is what the Google Business Profile says. The street itself is Barrhaven. OpenStreetMap places Ralph Erfle Way in Quinn’s Pointe, inside the Barrhaven West ward, and K2J is one of the two postal codes covering the community. Nepean is the locality left over from the City of Nepean, incorporated on 24 November 1978 and folded into Ottawa at the 2001 amalgamation.
So a booking here is not a trip out. Measured on 2026-08-09 from published coordinates, the Minto Recreation Complex on Cambrian Road is under two kilometres from us in a straight line, and the Walter Baker Sports Centre over in Old Barrhaven is about five. Those are straight-line figures, not drive times.
Short distances change the work more than they change the quote. A forgotten crate becomes a ten minute round trip instead of a crisis, and clearing the room the same night is realistic rather than heroic. Barrhaven is one entry on our full service area list, and it is the closest one to the door.

Barrhaven has no strip of hotel ballrooms. What it has instead is a thick cluster of city-run and club-run rooms, most of them minutes apart: Cambrian Hall and the gymnasium at the Minto Recreation Complex on Cambrian Road, Sir Evan Nepean Hall at the Walter Baker Sports Centre on Malvern Drive, the Larkin House Community Centre on Larkin Drive with bookings run by the West Barrhaven Community Association, the Chapman Mills Community Building, Valour Hall at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 641 on Fallowfield Road, and two golf clubhouses in Stonebridge and Cedarhill.
Naming a room is not a claim to have worked in it, and nobody else’s booking rules belong on our website. What is worth saying is what a room of that type does to a design. Municipal halls and gymnasiums arrive with a fixed overhead light you cannot dim, so colour has to survive a flat white wash rather than being rescued by uplighting. A gym floor is a sprung surface, which rules out anything that stakes or lifts the finish on removal and puts the install on weighted bases.
Three questions get asked of every venue before a quote goes out. How high is the ceiling at the wall where the backdrop goes, because that settles an arch against a panel. Where is the load-in door and what sits between it and the room. And which outlet we are allowed to draw from. Once they are answered the backdrop and floral plan and the balloon install stop being guesses, and the rental list gets sized to a real room rather than to a photograph.
Guests travelling in have an option most Ottawa suburbs do not: Barrhaven has its own Via Rail stop at Fallowfield, where passenger service was reinstated in the autumn of 2002.

Standard lots, new builds, and about a hundred exceptions
Almost everything here is post-1968 and most of it post-1990. The modern community began when Mel Barr assembled a 200-acre farm intending to build a horse racing track and put up houses instead. Old Barrhaven, the 1970s and 1980s core west of Greenbank and south of Fallowfield, gave way to Longfields, Davidson Heights, Chapman Mills and Stonebridge, then to Half Moon Bay and Quinn’s Pointe along Cambrian Road, still being built out today.
For a setup at home that history is not trivia, it is ceiling height and door width. A great room in a recent build usually carries a full arch and a tall backdrop without argument. A bungalow or split from the Old Barrhaven era often does not, and the scheme has to spread wide instead of climbing. Townhouse blocks have no driveway depth to unload into, so every piece is carried in from the street, which is a scheduling fact rather than a design one.
Back gardens here are standard serviced suburban lots. The built-up suburb runs on full municipal water and sanitary sewer, so there are no well or septic questions and no rural surcharge to argue about. The real limits are the width of the side gate, the fence line, and whether the deck or patio is level enough to stand columns safely. One pocket breaks the pattern: Cedarhill Estate, founded 1979 north-west of Barrhaven proper, is roughly 100 custom homes on one-acre lots, on city water but with every property running its own septic system and with no sidewalks or bus service. A marquee is genuinely possible on a lot that size, and the first thing to locate is the septic bed, because that is where stakes do not go and a loaded van does not park.
The other thing this community knows first-hand is weather. Two tornadoes struck on 13 July 2023, both rated EF1 by the Northern Tornadoes Project at winds estimated up to 155 km/h, and Ottawa Fire Services counted roughly 50 damaged houses on Umbra Place and Watercolours Way, 35 on Perseus Way and Proxima Terrace, and 30 to 40 around Jockvale Road and Exeter Drive. The usable point is smaller than the headline: a wind and rain plan for an outdoor wedding or birthday setup is a real conversation in Barrhaven, and it costs nothing to have it at the site visit.

Yes. The mailing locality on our Google profile is Nepean and this site matches it character for character, because an address that differs between listings is one of the fastest ways to lose local ranking. We have booked a room at a City of Ottawa complex. What do you need from us?
Three things, and none of them are about colour. First, the ceiling height at the wall where you want the backdrop, because that decides an arch against a flat panel. Second, the load-in route, meaning which door we use and what sits between it and the room. Third, the length of the window we get before doors open and after the last guest leaves. Ask the venue when you book and the design gets sized to fit.
Our backyard is a normal Barrhaven lot. Is that enough room for an arch and a balloon install?
Usually yes, and the constraint is rarely the lawn. It is the side gate, because stands, panels and a flower arch all have to reach the back garden without going through the house. After that it is level ground for anything free-standing, an outdoor outlet within reach if lighting is in the plan, and the fence line, which is often exactly where a garland wants to run. All of it gets checked at the site visit.
