How Much Does a Wedding Planner Cost in Ottawa?
The Short Answer
Short answer: a wedding planner in Ottawa costs from $700 for day-of coordination to $14,500 and up for full planning. Those are the two ends of the prices Ottawa planners publish on their own websites, read on October 6, 2026: Witjes Weddings’ day-of package, and Erica Irwin Weddings and Events’ full planning. Between them, Rustic Engagements starts full planning at $6,500 and Fiona Lau Events at $7,195.
The other way to size it is as a share of the whole wedding. The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada puts the average full-planning fee at 10 to 15% of the budget. On the $30,000 to $42,000 that CBC News reported as the average Canadian wedding, that is $3,000 to $6,300.
We are a decor studio in Nepean that also plans weddings, and we quote planning per wedding, so our own price is not in the table. If you are hiring a wedding planner in Ottawa, this guide shows how the fee is built and what each tier leaves for you to do.

A Fair Price
What is a reasonable cost for a wedding planner?
Reasonable depends on how much of the work you still want to do yourself. Start with what Ottawa planners charge: the table below holds every price we found published by one. Coordination for a wedding you have already planned starts at $700 and goes to $1,600, and a planner who runs the whole thing from the engagement on starts at $6,500 at Rustic Engagements.
Then hold the quote against your budget. The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada, which trains and certifies planners, gives 10 to 15% of the total wedding budget as the average cost of full planning in its price guide, last updated in January 2022. Zola, an American wedding company, puts the US average at $4,047 in its Wedding Cost Index, about 8% of a total wedding budget. Applied to a $30,000 wedding, 10 to 15% is $3,000 to $4,500. That pays for partial planning at Caroline and Company ($1,850) or Rustic Engagements ($2,400), with room to spare, and falls short of full planning at Rustic Engagements, Fiona Lau Events or Erica Irwin.
Last, read the package for the work: hours on the wedding day, people on site, meetings before it, and the date the planner takes over your vendor emails. Two quotes with the same total can differ by a whole person on the day.
Ottawa Price Lists
What Ottawa wedding planners publish
These six Ottawa planners publish prices on their own websites. Each row is in the planner’s own wording, read on October 6, 2026, and a price marked “from” is the planner’s starting price. The last row is a page from 2017, kept because Google ranks it first; the rest of this guide leaves it out.
| Planner | Decor set-up or design only | Day-of or month-of | Partial planning | Full planning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Witjes Weddings | Not listed | Day-of $700; month-of $1,200 | Coordination from six months out, $1,600 | Not offered yet, its FAQ says |
| Caroline and Company | Set-up and tear-down, from $1,150 | Not listed on its own | From $1,850 | No full-planning package; its Champagne package adds design and styling to coordination, from $3,150 |
| Rustic Engagements | Set-up and take-down, from $800; design help from $500 more | From $1,600, with eight hours on the day | From $2,400 | From $6,500 |
| Fiona Lau Events | Set-up and tear-down, from $895; design, from $2,489 | Not listed on its own | From $5,175 | From $7,195 |
| Erica Irwin Weddings and Events | Not listed | Not offered on its own | From $6,500 | From $14,500 |
| Ottawa DJ Service | Not listed | Bronze, $1,500 | Silver, consulting, $2,500 | Gold, full service, $3,500 (a page still offering savings on 2017 weddings) |
The page Google shows first for this search in Ottawa is the last row. Ottawa DJ Service lists a Bronze day-of package at $1,500, a Silver consulting package at $2,500 and a Gold full-service package at $3,500, on a page that still offers a discount for booking 2017 weddings. Read it as history: its Gold price is a little over half the lowest full-planning price in the other rows.
For a second opinion from outside the city, WeddingWin.ca’s 2026 guide for Milton, west of Toronto, puts month-of coordination at $1,500 to $4,000 and up, partial planning at $3,000 to $7,500 and up, and full planning at $6,000 to $15,000 and up. Ottawa’s published full-planning prices land inside that last range. The smaller tiers start lower here: Witjes Weddings’ day-of and month-of prices are under Milton’s $1,500 floor, and Caroline and Company and Rustic Engagements start partial planning under its $3,000. The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada’s own city list, from 2022, starts month-of coordination at $1,500 to $2,500 and up in Toronto and Montreal, and does not list Ottawa.
The Tiers
Four tiers, and what each one leaves to you
Full planning
The planner starts soon after the engagement and stays to the last dance. Fiona Lau Events’ full planning, from $7,195, lists budget development and tracking, venue comparisons, vendor referrals and contract review, the floor plan, RSVP and menu management, and the final payments and gratuities on the night. Erica Irwin Weddings and Events’ version, from $14,500, puts its principal planner and at least one assistant on the wedding day for up to ten hours. WeddingWin advises booking full planning 12 to 18 months out for a peak Saturday.
Partial planning
You have booked the big pieces, usually the venue and the caterer, and want help with the rest. Fiona Lau Events’ partial package, from $5,175, spells out the rhythm: a kick-off meeting, two planning meetings, a midway check-in, a final details meeting five to six weeks out, and one more just before the wedding. Caroline and Company starts its partial planning at $1,850 and says it begins the moment you book rather than a few weeks out.
Month-of and day-of coordination
You plan it all and the coordinator runs it, though the name undersells the work. Rustic Engagements’ day-of package, from $1,600, includes an in-person meeting, help building the timeline, the rehearsal and eight hours on the wedding day as the vendors’ main contact. Witjes Weddings prices day-of at $700 and month-of at $1,200, and the difference is how early it starts. Erica Irwin does not sell day-of on its own at all, because, its services page says, 95% of the planning is done ahead of time.
Decor only: design, or set-up and tear-down
The smallest tier is someone to put your decor up and take it down. Rustic Engagements charges from $800 and asks you for detailed instructions, a floor plan and a seating layout; Fiona Lau Events charges from $895, and Caroline and Company from $1,150. Fiona Lau sells design on its own from $2,489. These prices are for setting up decor you have already sourced. A decorator who supplies the pieces quotes them with the installation, and what that costs is in our guide to wedding decor cost in Ottawa.
Fee Models
Flat fee, percentage or hourly
A flat fee
Every Ottawa price in the table is a flat fee for a defined package, and Zola calls it the most common structure. The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada’s guide puts flat fees for full coordination at $3,500 to $10,000 and up, depending on the area and the planner’s experience, and adds that design work can carry a separate design fee.
A percentage of the budget
The institute’s average is 10 to 15% of the total budget. Baillie-David & Co., an Ottawa planner, wrote in January 2022 that its couples typically spent 10 to 15% of their budget on its services. On $30,000, that is $3,000 to $4,500. On the $97,000 that Erica Irwin’s 2024 weddings averaged, it is $9,700 to $14,550, and the top of that is within $50 of Erica Irwin’s own flat starting price for full planning.
A percentage moves with every line of the budget, including lines the planner has nothing to do with. Zola’s advice is to ask which parts of the budget it applies to before you sign.
By the hour
Hourly rates are for a consultation: help getting started, or a second look at a budget or a contract. The institute’s guide gives starting rates of $150 to $250 for the first hour in a city and $50 to $100 for each hour after, or $100 and then $50 in a town, and says a normal session takes two hours. Zola’s US range is $75 to over $200 an hour.
Tax and the deposit
Fiona Lau Events prints “+HST” beside its micro-wedding packages, so ask whether a quote includes Ontario’s 13%. It also asks for 30% of the total as a retainer, due within a week of the contract being sent. Travel can be a line as well, and has its own section below.
What Moves It
Guest count, the venue, and the drive
Guest count, through staffing
A bigger wedding needs more hands on the day, and the packages show it: Erica Irwin’s include an assistant planner at minimum. WeddingWin warns against low quotes that never mention staffing, because a wedding with a separate ceremony and reception space can need a planner in two places at once.
On a percentage fee, guests move the price directly. Erica Irwin counts at least $300 to $400 a guest for food and bar. 20 more guests at those rates add $6,000 to $8,000 to the budget, and $600 to $1,200 to a 10 to 15% fee.
The venue: a tent costs more to plan than a hall
Baillie-David & Co. put full planning in Ottawa at $6,000 to $8,500 or more in 2022, and a tented wedding at $8,000 to $12,000, because of the much higher workload. It noted that planners often price a tent as a separate package entirely. WeddingWin says the same of tented, multi-day, cultural and production-heavy weddings: they can rise well above its ranges.
A venue with its own coordinator does not replace a planner, Erica Irwin argues, and its description of that role shows why. The venue’s coordinator handles the venue’s side of the day: the room set to the floor plan, the kitchen and bar staff, meal choices, security and the heating. The timeline, the vendors and the wedding party stay with you or your planner.
A venue out in the valley, and the kilometres
Not every Ottawa wedding is in the city. Our comparison of Ottawa wedding venues includes four a longer drive out, in Beckwith, Almonte, Merrickville and Wakefield. Planners pay for that drive, and some bill it. Fiona Lau Events charges $1.40 a kilometre, per vehicle, for round-trip travel beyond the first 100 km from its Ottawa office, and adds lodging when the venue is more than 100 km away. Its own example is a venue 89 km out: 178 km there and back, less 100, leaves 78 km, which is $109.20 per vehicle. Two cars double it.
The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada lists vehicles, fuel, parking and travel among the costs a planner carries whether or not a wedding is booked, so expect it in the fee if it is not a line of its own.
A second day
Packages price one wedding day: eight hours at Rustic Engagements, up to ten at Erica Irwin. WeddingWin lists multi-day planning, for cultural weddings and wedding weekends, as a custom quote. A henna or mehndi night before the wedding is a second event with its own setup, so it needs its own line. We style those too, in English or Arabic.
Experience
How much does a good wedding planner charge?
In Ottawa, published full planning starts at $6,500 at Rustic Engagements and at $14,500 at Erica Irwin Weddings and Events. Baillie-David & Co. wrote in 2022 that most seasoned planners in Ottawa charge at least $2,000 for month-of and day-of coordination, which is above every day-of and month-of price in the table.
The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada, writing in August 2026, names experience, education, demand, location, team size and level of service as what sets a planner’s price. Team size is the one you can check on paper. Erica Irwin’s packages name the people on the wedding day, a principal or associate planner plus an assistant; when a package names nobody, ask.
WeddingWin’s list of questions is a good test of any quote, at any price: when do you take over communication with our vendors, how many of your team will be on site, will you build the timeline and the floor plan, and what is not included.
Our Side
How much we charge as wedding planners
We do not publish a planning price, because the tier decides the fee. We offer full wedding planning, where we build the plan with you from the start, and day-of coordination, where we take the plan you made, confirm it with every supplier in the week before and run the day. Most couples who ask us about decor turn out to need something between the two, so we ask what you have already booked and quote the tier you need, not the larger one.
We are also the decorator, which changes the comparison. A planner usually coordinates a separate decor company, and the handover between them is where a timeline slips. When we plan a wedding, the arch, the head table and the centrepieces are ours, installed before guests arrive and taken down at the venue’s teardown time, and that is written into the quote. Our wedding planning and decor page shows what we build.
For a quote we need the date, the venue, the guest count and what is already booked. We work from Nepean, so the south and west of the city are close, and for a venue further out its access window matters more to us than the drive.
The Whole Budget
Is $30,000 too much for a wedding?
No. CBC News reported on June 7, 2026 that the average Canadian wedding costs $30,000 to $42,000, citing WeddingWire Canada and The Knot’s 2025 Global Report. $30,000 is the bottom of that range.
In Ottawa it is a budget that has to choose. Erica Irwin Weddings and Events published the numbers from its own 17 weddings of 2024: an average of $97,000 for 133 guests, with food, bar and venue at $300 to $400 a guest, tax and gratuities included. At those rates, $30,000 feeds 75 to 100 guests and pays for nothing else. Baillie-David & Co. wrote in 2022 that the $30,000 figure “doesn’t get you much” for 100 to 150 guests, and that most of its own couples spent $50,000 to $80,000. Those are full-service planners’ clients, not an average, but they show where the money goes: a $30,000 Ottawa wedding works with a shorter guest list or a less expensive room.
The planner’s share follows. At $30,000, day-of coordination at $700 to $1,600 is 2 to 5% of the budget. Full planning at Rustic Engagements’ $6,500 is 22%, more than a fifth. The tier that fits the institute’s 10 to 15% at that budget is coordination or partial planning.
Questions
Wedding planner cost, answered
How much does a wedding planner cost in Ottawa?
From $700 for day-of coordination to $14,500 and up for full planning, going by the prices Ottawa planners publish on their own websites, read on October 6, 2026. Full planning starts at $6,500 at Rustic Engagements, $7,195 at Fiona Lau Events and $14,500 at Erica Irwin Weddings and Events. Partial planning starts between $1,850 and $6,500, and having someone set up decor you already have starts at $800 to $1,150.
What is a reasonable cost for a wedding planner?
The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada puts the average fee for full planning at 10 to 15% of the total wedding budget, and Zola’s US cost index puts the average planner at about 8%. On the $30,000 to $42,000 that CBC News reported as the average Canadian wedding, citing WeddingWire Canada and The Knot, 10 to 15% is $3,000 to $6,300. At the top of that range you can afford any partial-planning package an Ottawa planner publishes except Erica Irwin’s, and full planning, which starts at $6,500 at Rustic Engagements, sits just above it.
How much does a good wedding planner charge?
Published full planning in Ottawa starts at $6,500 at Rustic Engagements and at $14,500 at Erica Irwin Weddings and Events, and Baillie-David & Co. wrote in 2022 that most seasoned Ottawa planners charge at least $2,000 for month-of and day-of coordination. What the higher price buys shows up in the package: how many people are on site, how many hours they stay on the wedding day, how many meetings come before it, and how early the planner takes over talking to your vendors.
What is the difference between day-of and month-of coordination?
Mostly when the coordinator starts. Witjes Weddings prices them separately, $700 for day-of and $1,200 for month-of. Neither really means one day: Rustic Engagements’ day-of package, from $1,600, includes an in-person meeting, a timeline built with you, the rehearsal and eight hours on the wedding day, and Zola says day-of coordinators usually start four to six weeks before the wedding.
Do wedding planners charge travel for a venue outside Ottawa?
Some do, by the kilometre. Fiona Lau Events charges $1.40 a kilometre for round-trip travel beyond the first 100 km from its Ottawa office, per vehicle, plus lodging when the venue is more than 100 km away. Its own example, a venue 89 km out, bills 78 km, which comes to $109.20 per vehicle. Ask every planner how they charge travel before you compare totals.
Is $30,000 too much for a wedding?
No. It sits at the low end of the $30,000 to $42,000 that CBC News reported in June 2026 as the average Canadian wedding, citing WeddingWire Canada and The Knot’s 2025 Global Report. In Ottawa it is a budget that has to choose: one Ottawa planner’s own couples paid $300 to $400 a guest for food, bar and venue in 2024, so at that level $30,000 covers 75 to 100 guests and nothing else. A smaller guest list or a less expensive venue is what makes it work.
