“Alta Vista” is ten sub-neighbourhoods, so the name alone is not an address
Sparkle Events style weddings, birthdays, showers, henna nights and corporate parties across Alta Vista. We work from a studio at 99 Ralph Erfle Wy in Nepean, about 18 kilometres to the south west in a straight line, and we deliver, place and collect every piece rather than handing you a warehouse address. Backdrops, balloon installs, florals, favours and rental furniture. Rental pieces carry published prices, from a rattan peacock chair at $50 to a heart flower arch listed at $350 and currently $320. The community association draws the boundary as the part of Alta Vista Ward south of Smyth Road, north of Walkley Road, east of the Rideau River and Bank Street, and west of the greenspace under Haig Drive. That is 7.231 square kilometres holding 24,726 people at the 2021 census, a density of 3,419 per square kilometre, which makes it roomy by inner-city standards and large enough that two addresses inside it can be very different jobs.
Ten named sub-neighbourhoods sit inside that line: Applewood Acres, Billings, Canterbury, Faircrest, Guildwood Estates, Heron Gate, Playfair Park, Rideau Park, Ridgemont and Urbandale Acres. Give us the street and the postcode when you enquire. Guildwood Estates south of Kilborn Avenue and a rental block in Heron Gate are both correctly called Alta Vista, and almost nothing about the setup is the same.
The place sits roughly 5.5 kilometres south east of Parliament Hill and it is fully urban serviced, on municipal water and sanitary sewer. No wells, no septic. That matters more than it sounds. On our rural pages the first thing we locate before a marquee goes up is the septic bed, because that is where stakes do not go and a loaded van does not park. In Alta Vista the question never arises, so an outdoor plan comes down to the surface, the gate and the weather.

The Smyth Road edge
Two hospital campuses front this neighbourhood, and they change what a balloon is
Alta Vista is a hospital district as much as a residential one. The Ottawa Hospital General Campus and CHEO both front Smyth Road, which is the neighbourhood’s northern boundary, and the Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus sits at Smyth and Riverside Drive.
If your celebration is happening inside one of those buildings, the rules are not the rules of a community hall, and they are published. The Ottawa Hospital’s own visiting page states it plainly:
“Only Mylar® balloons are allowed within the hospital.”
and, on scents:
“Please do not wear or use perfume, aftershave or other scented personal products in the hospital or when visiting a patient.”

Two things follow for a decorator and neither is obvious from a photograph. Latex is out, which rules out a classic organic garland and puts the whole design onto foil, so the palette has to be chosen from what foil actually comes in rather than matched to a latex chart. And a scent-free building rules out heavily fragranced stems, which changes a floral arrangement at the selection stage rather than at the door.
CHEO is a separate hospital with its own policies and we have not verified them, so we will not tell you what they are. Ask the unit, get the answer in writing, and send it to us. We would rather redesign a week out than be turned around in a lobby.
Everywhere else in the neighbourhood, our normal balloon decor and backdrop and floral work applies without modification.

Annexed 1950
The build era here is datable, and the house form is not
Alta Vista was annexed from Gloucester Township in 1950, in an annexation that took roughly 14,000 acres from Gloucester including Billings Bridge. Most of what stands was built after that, subdivision by datable subdivision: Faircrest Heights, Applewood Acres, Ridgemont and Elmvale Acres through the 1950s, Urbandale Acres in the 1960s, Guildwood Estates in the early 1970s. Elmvale Acres was built in the late 1950s by Robert Campeau. Herongate Mall was developed by Queens Grove Development Limited in 1969. Older pockets survive underneath all of it: Rideau Park was subdivided in 1892, and Alta Vista is documented as a subdivision of its own by 1939.
Here is the part most local pages would fake. Knowing a house was finished in 1957 does not tell us its ceiling height, its door widths, or whether there is a split level between the front door and the room the party is in. Those vary house to house on the same street, and we have no source that generalises them for this neighbourhood, so we do not guess. We ask for three measurements instead, and we ask before anything is designed rather than on the morning: the ceiling height at the wall where the backdrop goes, which settles an arch against a flat panel; the route from the door we load through; and the width of the narrowest point on that route.
One qualification, because it is honest and it is ours. The 1950 date is documented for the neighbourhood as a whole. We have not established that every street inside the modern boundary, which runs all the way south to Walkley Road, came into the city in that single annexation. If an exact year matters to a heritage-themed event, check it for your address rather than taking ours.

Any of those can be booked on its own. Plenty of people rent one strong piece, handle the rest themselves, and never book a full build. A styled setup is quoted itemized on top of those numbers, which means you can see every line and move money between them before committing to anything. Weddings, birthdays and the rest of it
For a wedding in Alta Vista the practical questions are the ones above: room, ceiling, route, and whether any part of the day touches a hospital building. Ceremony backdrops, head-table installations, aisle work, florals and the rental furniture all come out of one studio, so the pieces match without being coordinated across three suppliers.
For a birthday or party setup the constraint is almost always the room rather than the budget. A balloon wall that photographs beautifully at nine feet has nowhere to go in a basement with a beam across it, and the answer is a wide low scheme rather than a tall one. Tell us the ceiling height and it gets sized correctly the first time.
Favours are made and finished in the same studio, from $4.50 an item, so keepsakes can be matched to the room instead of ordered separately and hoped for. We work in English and in Arabic.

Do you deliver and set up in Alta Vista?
Yes, and it is a straightforward run. Measured 2026-08-24, straight-line from our studio coordinates to the published centre of the neighbourhood is about 18 kilometres on a bearing of 21 degrees, so we come up from the south west. That is a straight-line figure and not a drive time. It is a shorter trip than Orleans, which we serve regularly.

The one third-party credential this business owns is Winner, 2026 Canadian Choice Award, in the Event Planning Services category for Ottawa, published on the awarding body’s own winners page. The Google profile carries a 5.0 rating from 48 reviews.
What we will not do is dress a citywide review up as an Alta Vista one. No review on record names this neighbourhood, so this page makes no local proof claim. A page that did would be inventing one.

Can you bring balloons into a room at the General Campus or the Riverside Campus?
Foil only. The Ottawa Hospital publishes that only Mylar balloons are allowed within the hospital, and the building is scent-free, which affects florals as well. So a latex garland is out and the palette gets chosen from what foil comes in. CHEO is a separate organisation with its own rules and we have not verified them, so ask your unit and send us their answer in writing before anything is ordered.
Should I say Alta Vista, or the name of my street's subdivision?
Give us the street and the postcode, then use whichever name you would say out loud. The neighbourhood covers 7.231 square kilometres and holds ten named sub-neighbourhoods, from Rideau Park in the north to Heron Gate and Guildwood Estates in the south, so on its own the area name does not tell us whether you are near Smyth Road or near Walkley.
Our house is from one of the 1950s subdivisions. Does the build era change what you can do?
It changes what we measure, not what we offer. We can date the subdivisions here, but we have no source telling us what ceiling heights or door widths a 1950s Alta Vista house actually has, and those vary along a single street. So we ask for three numbers rather than assuming: ceiling height at the backdrop wall, the load-in route, and the narrowest point on it. With those answered, the design is sized to your room instead of to a photograph.
Do we need to worry about a septic bed before an outdoor setup?
No. Alta Vista is fully urban serviced on municipal water and sanitary sewer, so there is no septic bed to locate and no well to work around. What does matter outdoors is the width of the side gate, whether the patio or deck is level enough for free-standing columns, an outdoor outlet within reach if lighting is in the plan, and an agreed cut-off hour for the weather call.
There is a National Historic Site in the neighbourhood. Can you work there?
The Billings Estate is inside the boundary at 2100 Cabot Street. The house was built in 1827 to 1829 by Braddish Billings, who arrived in 1812 as the first settler of Gloucester Township. It is the oldest wood-framed house in Ottawa, it has been a City of Ottawa museum since 1975, and it was designated Billings House National Historic Site of Canada in 1968. Its booking terms are the City's to state and not ours, so ask them first. If they say yes, send us their conditions and we will design inside them.
